Paper4trees was first introduced to the Southland Region in 2010.

Today, a total of 109 schools and preschools are registered with the programme.
This represents 69% of all schools and 64% of all early childhood centres across Southland. 
 

Between 2010 and 2026, Southland schools and preschools have:

• Diverted 1,737 tonnes of paper and cardboard from landfill
               - That is approximately the same weight as 371 elephants. 

• Saved 13,902 cubic metres of landfill space

• Prevented 9,384 tonnes of carbon dioxide from being created in landfill

The recycling efforts of Southland schools and preschools have made a difference. To recognise their commitment to recycling, we have rewarded participating schools and preschools with a total of:

These trees can be planted in school grounds or throughout local communities, helping to create greener, healthier environments for everyone to enjoy.
