Paper4trees was first introduced to the Manawatū-Whanganui Region in 2007.

Today, a total of 281 schools and preschools are registered with the programme.
This represents 88% of all schools and 45% of all early childhood centres across Manawatū-Whanganui.

Between 2007 and 2026, Manawatū-Whanganui schools and preschools have:

• Diverted 10,413 tonnes of paper and cardboard from landfill      

                   - That is approximately the same weight as 2,225 elephants. 

• Saved 83,308 cubic metres of landfill space

• Prevented 55,632 tonnes of carbon dioxide from being created in landfill

The recycling efforts of Manawatū-Whanganui schools and preschools have made a difference. To recognise their commitment to recycling, we have rewarded participating schools and preschools with a total of:

These trees can be planted in school grounds or throughout local communities, helping to create greener, healthier environments for everyone to enjoy.
